Holy Trinity Anglican Church

The Holy Trinity Church is part of the worldwide Anglican community as a parish in the North-eastern Caribbean and Aruba Diocese. The original church (pictured below) holds a very special place in the Barbudan community as it was established as the first church on the island. The Anglican Church also introduced education in Barbuda and governed and operated the Holy Trinity School from its inception until 1950, when the Government of Antigua took over.
The Restoration Appeal – the original building was erected in 1924 after the previous one was destroyed by a hurricane in 1922 and upkeep of the old building has been a constant battle as time and other hurricanes take their toll. Members of the congregation embarked on a fund-raising drive by holding various events, including early morning breakfasts on Saturdays. Local architect, Chad Knight, was assisting with plans (above) to start the major structural work, which included raising the floor and replacing the roof. In the past the church received support from guests at Coco Point Lodge who donated light fixtures and fittings. Sadly the old historic building is now in a state of collapse.
The church has now moved to a new church building (above) in a different location and regular services are held there.
