The long overdue new buildings at Sir McChesney George Secondary School are nearly completed, funded by an Antiguan (UPP) government loan, from the Caribbean Development Bank. It will finally allow secondary education on Barbuda to have the space and recognition it deserves in the only secondary school on Barbuda.

SMGSS takes students from the Common Entrance exam age of 12 years, until leaving age. The wide range of CXC exams taken by students range from the five core subjects (Maths, English, Languages, Sciences and the Arts) to Home Economics and Sports. Barbudan students compete at many levels both nationally and Caribbean-wide in a variety of events and usually do very well, thanks to the dedication of Barbudan teachers and the support of volunteers who recognise the importance of a good education. The Principal is Mr Rexford Harry and he heads a team of up to 20 teachers.
