Construction at Sir McChesney George Secondary School is completed, finally allowing secondary education on Barbuda to have the space and recognition it deserves in the only secondary school on Barbuda. The gardens are beautifully kept thanks to the Council team who look after the grounds and who also contribute to the agriculture programme in the school. The school is widely used by the community for educational events and activities.

SMGSS takes students from the Common Entrance exam age of 12 years until leaving age. The wide range of CXC exams taken by students range from the five core subjects (Maths, English, Languages, Sciences and the Arts) to Home Economics and Sports. It has a well established library and is now also branching out into vocational training in culinary arts and beauty therapy. Barbudan students compete at many levels both nationally and Caribbean-wide in a variety of events and usually do very well, thanks to the dedication of Barbudan teachers and the support of volunteers who recognise the importance of a good education.

The Principal is Mr Rexford Harry and he heads a team of up to 20 teachers.
