The Barbuda Library Association was founded in 1996 with the sole aim to build a library on the island. The group successfully raised over EC$42,000 by organising various village events, including the very popular Christmas Spectacular, which was held for several years at Madison Square on every 23rd of December. The whole village gathered together to show off their talents in the arts, and share a meal. The BLA were planning to use some of this funding to supply the materials for the designated reading room in the new Community Centre on River Road, but this has been delayed since Irma.
