Another misguided proposal has been brought to Council to turn Barbuda’s pristine salt ponds into a yachting marina by cutting a channel across Spanish Point. This would bring sea water into the ponds, a bird life area second to none in the Caribbean. The proposers are supported by Arthur Nibbs and Tyrone Beazer. They want to build two five-star hotels, condominiums, a heliport, an 18-hole golf course and require 1200 acres of land from Roundhill to Welch, an area where Barbudans were camping this Easter as usual. We suggest that the Barbuda Council send Arthur and Tyrone to this conference to see award winning sustainable tourism projects on Barbudas doorstep.
