Barbuda Council slashes money for music

Two Barbudan Calypsonians have criticised a Council decision to slash the subsidy for producing music for the Caribana festival. Three-time monarch Ordrick “King Montgomery” Samuel and Cannye “Lady Raw” Nedd have asked for an increase in the prizemonies instead. Chairman of the Barbuda Council’s Finance Committee, Fabian Jones, said recently that the festival committee would have to reduce the subsidy because of financial challenges. The money is used to assist to pay songwriters as well as for airline tickets and recordings.
