K Club land must be given back to Barbudans

Almost a decade after its closure, Barbuda Council member Fabian Jones has spoken of ‘serious action’ to get owners of the K Club to make a final determination about the ageing property. Compulsory acquisition of the property remains an option according to Jones. Half-hearted attempts have been made to sell the hotel, which in its heyday entertained famous individuals including Princess Diana. The lease holder – Italian designer Mariuccia Mandelli – has no interest in the hotel or in Barbuda. She was given a 99-year lease but there was no performance clause attached to the deal?!
